Take my pride, but you can't take my sandwich
30 January 2010 @ 01:11 pm
I have created a syndicated feed for my InsaneJournal. Anyone who wants to keep up with me without jumping ship can click here to (hopefully) add [info]dragoivan_ij to their flist. (Yes, I screwed up the spelling on my own RSS feed, shaddup.)

ETA: Also for those who don't want to leave LJ, [info]cmshaw has posted instructions on using OpenID to comment on IJ with your LJ username, instead of as anonymous.

Here are instructions on setting Semagic up to post to multiple journals, if you want to ease the transition of moving.

And this nice post on IJ's meta_roundup (thank you, das_dingsi!) has links to important things like squeaky's welcome post from the first round of Strikethrough, fandom-related feeds, and (for Firefox users), the IJ-Login comm.

If anyone is looking for fic that's mentioned/linked to/whatever, and it's been locked down, it ought to be on my website. Drop me a comment if it isn't.

And I think I shall backdate this thing so it's at the top of my journal when I leave.

[info]cvirtue's version of the privilege meme
Bold all that are/were true for you before you were an adult (18), italicize uncertainties:

1. We always had clean drinking water. We didn't have to carry it a long way.
2. We never went hungry.
3. We were warm enough in the winter.

4. We could go to a doctor if we were sick.
5. Garbage and sewage were taken away from our home.
6. None of our female relatives died in childbirth.
7. We learned to read, we went to school. All our relatives did. Even the women.

If you can bold all of these, you are in the most privileged 12% (or smaller) on the planet. (Clearly, chosen privation, such as camping trips, does not count.) Feel free to pass around.

Yeah, I has a privilege. How about you?

But only because this Who Framed Roger Rabbit? fic should be the most-recced story from Yuletide 2007. Seriously.

Look at this warning; you cannot deny the pure shiny of this warning:

Warnings: slash, femslash, het, OC, RPF, songfic, mpreg, implied non-con, implied BDSM, unauthorized reference to an infamous Yuletide story from 2005, character death, nudity, recreational drug use, potential tarnishing of childhood icons, potential tarnishing ofchildhood, tortured logic, tortured prose, clichés, and one scene of an FDA-banned use of a chicken.

I'm lying about the chicken.

Probably.

It is long and plotty and wonderful, it brings the Roger Rabbit-verse into the present with the effects of CGI characters on the careers of classic toons, it has more awesome cameos than you can shake a stick at, and it reveals why the new Winnie the Pooh movies have sucked lacked dear Christopher Robin.

It is, in short, the most wonderful fic of the year.

Go read it. You will thank me...but not as much as you will thank the mad genius who wrote it.

If you want to keep following my journal, it's time to friend [info]dragoivan_ij to their flist. (Yes, I screwed up the spelling on my own RSS feed, shaddup.), the RSS feed for my InsaneJournal.

I'm not abandoning this journal; I'll still keep it to read my friends list and comment, and probably even post sometimes. But my main journal is going to be my IJ, with a mirror on GJ.

Remember, IJ supports OpenID, so you can sign in using your LJ identity to comment on posts (I won't see comments made to the RSS feed).

Finally, the invisible rules are becoming visible. Artists are bearing the brunt, as suspected; manga and anime style artists are going to be hit particularly hard, since everyone this side of Yu-Gi's grandfather looks "questionable" to Western eyes.

Interesting, though, that they aren't going to edit the TOS, so anyone who hasn't been following along is still going to be clueless.

ETA: Given that LJ's definition of child pornography isn't like our Earth fandom definition, this is downright scary.

Stolen right from the [info]ibarw comm.

For 2007, IBARW will take place between August 6 through August 12.

If you would like to participate, here's what to do:

  1. Announce the week in your blog.

  2. Switch your default icon to either an official IBAR week icon, or one whichyou feel is appropriate. To get an official IBAR week icon, you may modify one of yours yourself or ask someone to do so. Here's a round up of IBARW icons.

  3. Post about race and/or racism: in media, in life, in the news, personalexperiences, writing characters of a race that isn't yours, portrayals of race in fiction, review a book on the subject, etc. (Linking back here is highly appreciated!)

For inspiration, here are last year's IBARW posts. You can also check out this post for further resources.

We'll be compiling links for IBARW2 as well, both in the IBARW del.icio.us account and with daily round-ups on this journal. Here's the round-up post for Monday, Aug. 6, 2007.

Please to be noting that the nifty posting of links from del.icio.us to LJ isstill undergoing troubleshooting, so right now, the best way to check for new IBARW links is the del.icio.us account.

PSST:It will help a lot on del.icio.us if you title your entry something topical, as opposed to just "Intl. Blog Against Racism Week."

I fail at thinkiness, as you all know, so I, sadly, will not be impressing Teal'c. However, there may well be porn, once my [info]het_challenge fic is out of the way. Sadly, the porn will not involve Teal'c, hot as I find him, because I don't write Stargate.

Kinkfest on IJ is open for business.

Promps for the September round are being collected here.

I was planning on this being in October, so instead of a perfect 2 prompts per day, I have 4 on September 30. :D

Go forth, my friends! Go forth and kink!

I have failed to pimp [info]choc_fic, primarily because I usually talk about comms I'm participating in, and my current fandom is woefully short on characters of color, and it did not strike me until right this minute that I could have posted prompts for old fandoms without writing anything myself. But now prompts are open for claiming, and there are several things I want to see written that nobody has claimed yet (Ben Sisko/Kassidy Yates, people! Bashir/Picard! Ares/Nebula!!), so I shall now pimp like a pimping thing.

It basically runs like springkink, but it doesn't have to be pr0n unless that's specifically included in the prompt. (However, did I mention Ares/Nebula?)

And now, I really must get back to my [info]het_challenge fic.

Well, I appear to have figured out the problem. Seems only my IJ had "spellcheck before posting" ticked, and for whatever reason, that was causing Semagic to not post. I unticked it, and posted a test post to IJ with no trouble; now I shall see if posting to multiple journals works.

So, if I can just figure out how to get Semagic to tag my IJ posts, I'll be happy. Okay, that's an IJ code thing. I can live with that.

ETA: [info]musesfool expresses my issues with LJ better than I can, so I point you at her: It's a customer service issue, and let's face it, LJ's customer service has always sucked. It's just that now I have reached my limit of what I am willing to take.

If anyone has commented on my IJ, you've seen that my comment pages are fucked up, with the content starting after reaching the end of the sidebar. If you haven't seen, let me show you (links go to images):

This is how my main journal looks on IJ.

And this is how the comments look on IJ.

I brought the style over from LJ. This is how the comments look over on LJ when I use this style. So, I don't think it's the CSS, but if you want to see it, there's a text file of it here.

Flexible Squares source code came from here.

Now, I like Flexible Squares a lot; it's easy to work with and all of my existing styles from LJ are in it. Plus, I'm lazy, and like being able to just swap around colors and images and maybe change the sidebar's float attribute when I want to change my journal. But I'm going to admit that I'm stumped, and I don't know if there's a problem with the code that was brought over, or if IJ just has a weirdness.

Help?

There'd better be some Transformers/Biker Mice from Mars crossover fic to make up for this.

From here.

If that wasn't enough RPG goodness, expect Square Enix to take a break from remaking Final Fantasy games to...remake Dragon Quest games, instead. The first one in the makeover chair? Dragon Quest IV, headed straight for the DS. Surprise, surprise.

I was going to read Emma Bull's Territory(and probably Apothecarius Argentum, because pretty silver-haired manga boy whose very touch is toxic, yay!...also, I have Volume Two pre-ordered, and it's supposed to be out middle of August), and I was going to burn some of the 75+GB of raw DQ8 footage from my hard drive to DVD, to make room on my hard drive for more raw footage, and I was going to update Dragovian Sanctuary with the YouTube videos I just put up, and there was a DQ8 hurt/comfort bunny that attacked me, and I was going to work on my het_challenge story, and and and...

And I spent the last several hours synchronizing the icons between my IJ and my GJ. (LJ gets no love because, come the end of the year, it goes back to basic, and I have no clue which six icons I'll be wanting then.) You know, when you have too many Angelo icons to count, it gets kind of hard to describe them so you'll know what the fuck you're talking about.
